The report, compiled by game developer Sergey Galyonkin, is based on estimates of PC game sales through Steam. Galyonkin points out that his numbers come from a variety of sources, sampling from a limited number of Steam’s more than 125 million users every minute, and they are “not 100 percent accurate.” But given a lack of hard data on game sales from retailers or publishers, these estimates offer useful insights. His stats are generally well respected, though not without controversy.

Steam Spy’s estimated revenue ranking pretty closely matches information Steam creator Valve published earlier this week. Though Steam Spy doesn’t include some free-to-play top-earners, like Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 and Warframe, in its top 25.

Steam Spy says that the top-earning new game last year was Civilization 6, with estimated income of $78.9 million. Dark Souls 3 brought in $63.6 million. Rise of the Tomb Raider raised $54.8 million while Doom managed $55.4 million.

Indie hit No Man’s Sky made $43.2 million on PC, a figure that accounts for refunds, according to Steam Spy. Indie farming smash Stardew Valley brought in $24.3 million, more than Dishonored 2, Mafia 3 or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Older games are still strong sellers in the PC market. Grand Theft Auto 5 made $73.6 million last year while perennial hit Counter-Strike: Global Offensive made $67.1 million. Here’s Steam Spy’s full breakdown chart.
